In Plain Sight aka My Current Obsession

25 07 2010

As you may have read in my last post, one of my all-time favorite TV shows is In Plain Sight. This is a wonderfully fantastic show about Mary Shannon, a WITSEC inspector (U.S. Marshal working for the Witness Protection Program). It has both a “case of the week” feel and overarching story lines to bring together the best parts of crime dramas.

In addition to her work life, the audience is privy to Mary’s family drama including an alcoholic mother, a well-intentioned but sometimes dumb sister and what some might consider the world’s best boyfriend.
And through it all she has her partner U.S. Marshal Marshall Mann.

I don’t have words to describe how much I love this show, but I can say that if it isn’t picked up for a 4th season, whoever makes that decision may have to go into witness protection after I hunt them down and attempt to murder them.

So if you need something to do this summer, rent (or buy) season 1 of In Plain Sight. I guarantee (as long as you share my taste in TV) that when you finish you’ll be horrified that there are only 12 episodes in the first season.

Go spend next weekend holed up in your room watching it! Seriously, you can easily watch the whole season in 1 weekend. Do it!

Love, Ginny

Too Beautiful To Live

14 07 2010

How many of you wonderful readers have heard of a podcast called Too Beautiful To Live? For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it’s a funny talk show hosted by Luke Burbank with comments from Producer Jen Andrews and Engineer Sean De Tore. Don’t let the fact that it’s a talk show stop you from listening; I’m not a huge fan of talk shows but I LOVE this one.

TBTL first aired January 7, 2008 and ended its radio run on September 11, 2009. However, fans loved the show so much that Luke is continuing it from his living room and posting podcasts online.

Every broadcast is available online at mynorthwest.com/tbtl and as a podcast on iTunes.

I recommend you start with BEST OF: Broke As A Joke In Seattle. Just search TBTL on iTunes. It’s free!

Now go listen!

Ginny’s Cooking Tip

12 07 2010

A tip for reheating items in the microwave that need to stay moist (such as rice, pasta, sauces, meats etc.): cover with a damp paper towel.
Now, for all I know this may already be common practice and I just don’t know much about reheating foods (or cooking them in the first place). But I discovered this trick myself and I’m going to pretend that now, because of me, many people will enjoy their reheated food much more than before.
Happy eating!

Life Lessons to Learn from Glee

14 04 2010

In celebration of the LONG awaited return of Glee (the best show in the world in my opinion) I decided to write a post about Glee. It’s weird I can see why people might dislike the show (it does get rather ridiculous at times) but there are a few things that Glee is trying to say that have been fundamental beliefs of mine for a long time and I love it because of how much it emphasizes these things.

1. Singing is better than football or cheerleading
2. Being different is good, and it’s okay to be a looser or an underdog
3. It’s vitally important to tell the truth (and faking a pregnancy is a REALLY bad idea)
4. It’s more important to have true friends than it is to be popular
5. You can do anything if you put in a little bit of heart
6. No matter how many people tell you “You can’t” you’ve gotta keep trying anyways.

FOX’s Musicals?

21 03 2010

I recently learned of FOX’s May Sweeps Programming. For a week in May, every show on FOX will have a musical episode. Each show can choose how far they go with this idea-it will be interesting to see how this works out. As a lover of musicals I think this is a fabulous idea but I’m not sure they thought this through well enough. I’ve never seen 24 but I imagine they’ll have a hard time with this. And America’s Most Wanted should be interesting…

The shows I watch on FOX should be amazing. I hear Bones is going to have a murder set in the world of Opera. I imagine House might feature Hugh Laurie on the piano. Glee is obvious. Lie To Me doesn’t return until June unfortunately. That leaves my newest favorite: Fringe. I’ve read that they’ve set it up as Walter telling a bedtime story to Olivia’s niece, Ella. I know many people are upset about this musical idea (and they have a point. Musicals and sci-fi don’t usually mix well) but I am unbelievably excited for this episode!

Ginny’s Countdowns:
Spring Break-1 week
Fringe Returns-2 weeks
Fringe’s Musical Episode-6 weeks
End of My First Year in College-8 weeks
